Glan Llyn!

March 13th, 2010

Hello to 6LH!

I hope you have all had a much needed lie in this morning, after three days of non stop activities. I’d like to say a big thank you for your fantastic attitude and behaviour. It was an absolute pleasure to take you away. Well done to you all.

Miss Hughes

Homework 5th February.

February 5th, 2010

English homework this week is to research a Welsh story from the following list:

  • The story of Gelert.
  • The story of Cantre Gwaelod.
  • The story of Elidir.

The children have until February 22nd to complete their research as they will then use their research to help them re-write their chosen story for our Eisteddfod competition.

For this year’s Eisteddfod we will be holding a “Chairing” ceremony for the best storywriter.  The children will be writing the stories as part of their English lessons, therefore THEY SHOULD NOT WRITE THE STORY OUT AT HOME!  All they have to do is find our about the plot, the characters, the setting etc and then compile this as a mind map, picture montage, scrap book etc – any way they choose to display the information they need for writing their version of the story.

The stories are available to read on the internet but we also have copies of them in school for children who do not have access to the internet.  You should also find copies in your local library.

Good luck with your research and we look forward to seeing all of the different ways you choose to present your findings.

January 16th, 2010

Hi Year 6,

I hope you’ve all recovered from the skiing trip and glad to be home! I know that all the children were really looking forward to coming home and seeing their families!

I told the children that all passports, money and EHIC cards would be returned to you on Monday, as it would have been very difficult to return these to you securely when the children were handed over last night.

I’d like to thank all of the parents of the children who went on the trip; coming home didn’t go quite as planned with the delays at Geneva, but it was great to see that the messages had got through to you, and all the children were safely collected.

I’d also like to say a very big WELL DONE to all the children. Their behaviour was immacuate throughout the trip, and many people commented on this over the 6 days we were away. They were ALL a credit to the school and a credit to you- I hope you are all very proud of them! The skiing trip would not have be as successful as it was without their participation, commitment, perseverance and good manners.

Well, i’m off to unpack and do my washing – enjoy the rest of the weekend and I will see you on Monday.

January 13th, 2010

Hi all :)   We’re still in one piece and having a great time.  The children have been a bit tired today as it is hard work, but they’re all having  great fun.  We are all off to the shops now and then we’re going sledging so we haven’t got time for any children’s comments today I’m sorry.

Thanks for all your messages – the children have enjoyed hearing from you as much as you  have enjoyed hearing from us. :)

It’s our last day skiing tomorrow and we hope to go in the chair lifts!!!   We skied in the snow today but hopefully it will be sunny tomorrow so we can appreciate the lovely views from the top.

See you all on Friday, we hope  to get the kids messages on again tomorrow.

Ski update: Friday 8th Jan

January 7th, 2010

We are now meeting at the earlier time of 7.30 – 7.45 on Sunday morning at Hawarden Infant School.  Please do not arrive before 7.30 as although we will be here before then, we have paperwork to arrange in order to make the handover of children and luggage easier for all of us, and we cannot concentrate on that if we are surrounded by excited children! :)

Please can skiers bring their passports, money and EHIC cards on Sunday – don’t forget them – double check before you leave the house!!! :) Thanks to those who have already popped them in to school today – you may leave the house without them! ;)

We will be meeting in Hawarden Infants instead of our school for health and safety reasons as walking up and down the hill will be too dangerous.  Also if road conditions remain the same, please can we ask that you park on the road and walk through the D for your own safety and in order to prevent the road surface from worsening for school on Monday.

When you arrive on Sunday please can you report straight to your group leader to help make things as efficient as possible.   They will take your passports, money and EHIC and answer any questions you may have.  They will also then give you some other information regarding phoning home etc.  Group lists are at the bottom of this post.

We will give out the contact names and numbers for who to ring to check that we have arrived when you drop the children off on Sunday.  We will ring our contacts on arrival and then you can ring them.  This will allow us to settle the children in quickly and safely when we arrive.  We will also be telling you which days to expect a phone call home from your child and between which times.

We can blog from Le Corbier, so the plan is to write a post each day about what we’re up to.  The children will be writing the posts and if you click on the “comments” box at the bottom of each post you can write a note to us too and we can access it from Le Corbier, so even if it is not your phone call night you can still see how we’re getting on and that we’re all safe and well.

I’m sure the children have all passed on the hints and tips from our ski chat on Tuesday.  I think the only thing we discussed that wasn’t on the letter is cameras.  We advise that children bring disposable cameras and label them.  If the children would like a copy of the photos on CD the photo shop can do it for you – I think it was only an extra 99p when I did it.

I think that’s everything!  I hope you’re all excited (kids about the skiing and mums and dads about the peace and quiet!) and we look forward to seeing you on Sunday.

Dormez bien entre aujourd’hui et Dimanche – le ski est tres fatigant!!!  Sleep well between now and Sunday – skiing is very tiring!!!

Keep checking here just in case there’s anything else we think of! See you Sunday at 7.30. :)
